This black forest pound cake combines the flavors of chocolate and cherries in a cake with a lighter feel. Instead of the whipped cream used to frost a classic black forest cake I opted for a lighter cherry cream glaze that dries to a crunchy glazed doughnut consistency. And the cake itself is a classic buttery pound cake that’s been given a more festive feel by adding sweet cherries and shards of dark chocolate. Hi Cory, The only ways I’ve made this particular recipe is with either 1 pound? of butter (2 cups) or with (1 cup of butter and 1 cup of Greek yogurt). You might try substituting 1 cup of apple sauce for the yogurt but if you try that I’d suggest using a tube pan, a bundt pan or 2 loaf pans because I’d be concerned that the center of the cake might not rise properly in this particular pan with applesauce in the recipe. You also might want to make sure that butter is OK on a dairy free diet.
i’d love to make this for my upcoming family visit so I do have one question. Some family members follow a dairy-free diet? so what could I use as the yogurt/cream substitute?
Please respond!
Yes? more so my kids 🙂
Thanks for the kind words. I? think you’ll really like it Carla.
That looks? so good I will make this for sure
This looks delicious – I’m craving something sweet now and thank goodness I’ve given away all of? the sweets in the house lol 🙂
A Tube Pan 🙂 Thanks. It had really stumped me, I listened to it but because I had never heard of a tube pan, my daft ears couldn’t work it out 🙂
I have to be careful this holiday. I have already put too many pounds on. I might only be able to gnaw on a turkey? bone by the 25th 🙂
Thanks Anne
Thanks for? the kind words.
Thanks Avoir.?
This would definitely make an incredible muffin. It would be a perfect make ahead addition to a holiday brunch.
Oh and at 4:30 I said bundt pan or tube pan. They’re those large doughnut shaped pans with the hole in the center. A pound cake made in either of those pans will give you a? crust on both edges of the cake.
And the holidays are the perfect time to be a consummate glutton. 🙂
Haha, I’ve? been hitting the pantry for chocolate all week. Thanks for stopping by Lyndsay.
You realize, after watching this, I’m going to have to hit the pantry for? something chocolate 😉 Looks soooo good!
